Q Is it permissible for Muslims to say “Jesus” especially when they are surprised and when they put emphasis on what they are saying.?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
In this fatwa:
- Saying “Jesus” is an expression like “Oh my God” or “Wow”. It doesn’t really mean literally “I pray to Jesus” or “Jesus help me.”
- Muslims should avoid saying “Jesus” when they are surprised not because necessarily it’s a swearing by other than Allah.
- We should close that door so children or young generations come later on don’t think of Jesus as someone that you pray to or you mention his names over things as we do when we make an oath by mentioning Allah.
